Last week we got the happy news that, through our CAL FIRE unit, we have 15 Ben Lomond Camp crew days to put toward completing the Fall Creek Truck Trail Shaded Fuel Break [SFB] down the eastern scarp of our mountain. Once complete, it will complement the Warrenella SFB to bisect the fireshed of Ben Lomond Mountain and insulate Bonny Doon from fires starting in the San Lorenzo Valley and vice versa. We expect that the prerequisite paperwork will finished Real Soon Now and the crews can begin work imminently.
As always, we need volunteers to monitor the crews when they work. If you are willing and able to help out, please contact us.
If you have already gone through the "sponsor" training class at the camp, you need only attest that you have refreshed your memory by reading a two page summary of the class. If you haven't taken the training, the only class scheduled for this winter takes place this coming Wednesday, February 3, from 9AM to 1PM at the camp.
