Resources & Services

In support of our mission to educate and mobilize the people of the Ben Lomond Mountain to protect their community, homes and environment from wildfire, the Fire Safe Council offers the following services at no cost to Bonny Doon property owners and residents.

Please note that services are performed and property visits done only when requested by the owner or resident. Join us in making Bonny Doon more fire safe.

Here’s how we can help you:

1. Work with you on developing an environmental approach to clearing vegetation and creating defensible space within 100 feet of your home.

2. Show you native vegetation to be selectively retained for wildlife and habitat value.

3. Help you know if you have rare plants or sensitive habitats to be careful of, so that you may avoid placing burn piles or hauling cut material in these areas.

4. Provide information on dealing with dying ponderosa pines and Western Pine Beetle infestations, prevention and cleanup.

5. Help you evaluate any fire hazards around your home, including roofs, gutters, propane tanks, and overhanging tree branches.

6. Help you evaluate your driveway or private road for access for emergency vehicles.

Winter is a great time to manage the vegetation around your home for fire safety and fuel reduction. Remember to leave 2 to 3 inches of mulch on the ground to help control soil erosion.
