BDFSC Year in Review

Over the last twelve months, our focus, by dint of their scale, has been on landscape level vegetation management projects. With grant 14 USFS-SFA 0052 we have constructed 172 acres of shaded fuel break along 7.5 miles of the Warrenella Truck across the San Vicente Redwoods from Empire Grade down to the coastal prairies north of Davenport. In collaboration with State Parks and funded by California State Responsibility Area Fee funding we built another 22 acres of shaded fuel break along the Fall Creek Truck Trail in Henry Cowell State Park from Alba Road, just below Empire Grade, down towards Felton. Combined, the fuel breaks move us toward our goal of bisecting the firescape of Ben Lomond Mountain. While grant funding is foundational, we wouldn’t have been able to do so much without 225 days of work by Ben Lomond Camp Crews and over 2,100 hours of community volunteer time monitoring them as they work. Our deepest thanks to all who contributed.
