Fall Creek Truck Trail - Another critical landscape level project needs your help!

We recently received CAL FIRE State Responsibility Area Fire Prevention Fee funds to support 10 Ben Lomond Camp [BLC] crew days for a shaded fuel break along the Fall Creek Truck Trail. This shaded fuel break runs down the East slope along the ridge between Stoddard Road, off Alba Road, and El Soyo Heights in Felton. It is in a rarely visited part of the Fall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell State Park. Together with the Warrenella Shaded Fuel Break on the West slope, the Fall Creek Truck Trail Shaded Fuel Break will divide the fireshed on our mountain in two. Fall Creek Truck Trail will also serve to separate the San Lorenzo Valley fireshed from the Bonny Doon fireshed.

Unfortunately, 10 crew days will only be enough to treat about half the shaded fuel break. Fortunately, State Parks has gotten several months of crew time from the California Conservation Corps [CCC], and are committed to using some of it finish the Fall Creek Truck Trail and fill in when BLC crews are called to fight wildfires.

The Cs are young people working to improve themselves and California’s environment. Like the BLC crews, they require a civilian supervisor each day. Before they start, we will need to lay out and flag the shaded fuel break. If you can help out supervising or flagging, please email: volunteering@bdfsc.org.
