Mark Your Calendar! Our First Annual Meeting

On Wednesday Evening, November 3, in the Bonny Doon School multipurpose room at 1492 Pine Flat Road, from 7 to 9 PM, we will be holding our first annual meeting. There are three phases to the meeting.

First, we will look back and forward on this year and next. We will bring the community up to date on our contribution to the San Mateo/Santa Cruz County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, the neighborhood projects we have sponsored and assisted, the grants we have applied for, our spring workshop, and our Council's by-laws and structure. Then we will talk about what we, as a community, can do this winter to prepare for next year's fire season, about the 2011 grant cycle, and our plans for regular general meetings.

Second, we will have a spokesperson from the Insurance industry talk to us about the factors involved in underwriting wildfire risk in our area. This will be a great opportunity to understand how our insurance rates are set and what we can do protect our properties. Bring your questions and concerns!

FSC Board Elections

Last, but certainly not least, we will elect our first permanent board. Since terms are two years and we want to insure continuity by staggering terms, half the candidates will be elected for one year and the other half for two year terms. In order that the normally two year terms.

As a community organization, we can only thrive with your involvement. It's not too late to throw your hat into the ring, and take a leadership role in the Council!

In order to serve on the FSC Board, you must live or work in the area, and have either contributed work in a Council Project or contributed at least $20 in cash in the prior year. To nominate someone, please email us at: bdfsc-board@eshu.net or write us at 150 McGivern Way, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, before October 10, 2010. Nominations from the community must be seconded in the same period to the same addresses. In order to become a candidate, you must accept the nomination. Candidates will be announced in mid-October.
