Maintenance of Ecological Reserve Shaded Fuel Breaks Coming This Fall

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) partners with Calfire to maintain shaded fuel breaks within the Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve. The shaded fuel breaks along Martin Road, Ice Cream Grade, and Candy Lane were last maintained in 2013 and new work is tentatively scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2019 .  CDFW also plans to widen the emergency exit road through the Reserve from Warren Drive to Martin Road. All materials removed will be piled on site and burned when surrounding fuel moisture conditions allow for safe disposal. This timeline, however, is subject to the availability of Calfire Conservation Crews which may not be available in the fall due to other priorities such as fighting active wildfires. If crews are not available in the fall, the project will likely be bumped to the Spring of 2020.
