Bonny Doon now has a Fire Safe Council! On Wednesday, February 17th more than 55 residents and representatives from the California, Santa Clara, and Soquel Fire Safe Councils; from CAL FIRE and Bonny Doon Fire and Rescue; and from other stakeholders gathered to discuss fire preparedness on Ben Lomond Mountain, and the role a Fire Safe Council can play. A Fire Safe Council is a community organization whose mission is mobilizing Bonny Dooners to protect their homes, community, and environments from wildfire. Many thanks to all who attended.

The group nominated and elected by unanimous approval a founding board of seven: Joe Christy, Val Haley, Nadia Hamey, Ilana King, Lonny Schwartz, Rob Sherman, and Alec Webster.

We are now at work planning defensible space workshops, collaborating on vegetation management grants, reviewing our San Mateo Santa Cruz County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), and  forming a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
